The Saint-Jacques Forest, like the Grünhaut Forest, forms the southeastern border of the Welkenraedt plateau. The area of the Welkenraedt Plateau is characterized by a calm relief, distant horizons, little forest, many meadows. But as we approach the foothills of the Ardennes and the Vesdre valley, the relief gradually becomes more undulating. This forest was donated by Thiebaut de Foran for the salvation of his soul to the church of Saint-Jacques-en-Ile in Liège, near where he is buried. The forest, which became the property of St. Jacques Abbey, thus received its current name.
