The Goethe-Schiller monument is probably one of the most famous motifs in Weimar. The bronze double statue of the German poets Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Friedrich von Schiller stands in front of the German National Theater on Theaterplatz in Weimar and was inaugurated in 1857.

Here in the DNT joined from 6 February 1919 to 21 May 1920, the Weimar National Assembly. The officially constitutional German National Assembly was the constituent parliament of the Weimar Republic. Venue was until September 1919 Weimar, not the politically heated Reich capital Berlin.

The Hoftheater, once founded by Goethe, today offers a repertoire of classical to contemporary works in the fields of opera, plays and concerts. With around 600 performances a year, the Deutsches Nationaltheater, as the most prestigious stage in Thuringia, enriches the event calendar in Weimar.
