This beautiful looking water where you can find beautiful flora and many water birds, insects and frogs is actually part of a fairly complex ecosystem with more water in the area. It is an important part of the Winterbeek catchment area. That belongs to the large Demer basin and is located on the territory of Beringen, Tessenderlo, Lummen and Diest. The Winterbeek originates near the Beringen mine and flows into the Demer in Scherpenheuvel-Zichem. In between it changes names: the Grote Beek, the Zwart Water and Hulpe. What you see here is one of the marshy remnants and mainly the result of water works in which the Kleine Beek plays a major role as a 'supplier' of water that also originates nearby. The pool itself has a path to walk around and is located near the cycle path through the woods and some hiking trails. Furthermore, just a place to enjoy and spot herons, coots and the like.
