The national monument Het Arsenaal is located in Naarden and dates back to 1688. It was used as a storage facility for military equipment, primarily weapons and ammunition. The building remained in military use until 1987. Over twenty years ago, the Netherlands' most renowned interior architect, Jan des Bouvrie, opened a home furnishings store and showroom for his designs in the historic building. Soon, the restaurant (then owned by Paul Fagel) and other interior design shops also joined Het Arsenaal. Het Arsenaal has become the Netherlands' leading concept store for interior design, luxury, gastronomy, jewelry, fashion, and lifestyle.
