Tom Gibson

From the UK’s South West and Berkshire, where tree-covered trails wind beneath perpetually grey skies, Tom’s love of adventure riding began in the ’90s—before GPS, bikepacking bags, or even the word bikepacking existed. Back then, it was a rattling Specialized Rockhopper, a pannier rack, and a vague plan. It didn’t go smoothly, but it planted the seed.

He gave in to bicycle touring and travel, and more recently, bikepacking. Sometimes a ride is just too short—you don’t want to turn back. With years of backpacking, backcountry navigation, advanced scouting to Chief Scout level, and plenty of outdoor pursuits, he’s learned a thing or two. These days, he rides lighter (in theory), packs smarter (sometimes), and knows the best gear is what gets you out the door.

He sets out with a tight plan but is ready to loosen it—the only way to bikepack long distances. Always a naturalist and outdoorsman, you’ll find him roaming the Jurassic Coast, Wiltshire’s ridgeways, the Cumbrian fells, or beyond, chasing the next adventure.

Minimalism is the goal, but gear creep is real. That’s where one-night overnighters come in—part escape, part field test, always worth it. Each ride trims the kit, smooths the routine, and strengthens the camp coffee.

Tom trusts Komoot and GPS not just for routes but to save energy for riding, not navigating. With a loose plan, full charge, and plenty of spontaneity, he shares creative Komoot tips, videos, and photos.

Most trips are solo, a natural shift as mountain biking buddies moved abroad, but he’s open to riding with them and others when missions align.

From England’s coasts to Colorado’s high trails, ancient bridleways to muddy Cycling UK paths and Spanish foothills, the routes change but the mission stays the same: ride far, ride free, ride don’t slide, and see what’s around the next corner.

Never stop seeking your next Komoot adventure.
