It is interesting that this place used to be the location of a large industrial enterprise and was not publicly accessible. After the departure of the company (Babcock BSH, formerly Schilde AG), an urban concept was decided not to rebuild the wasteland and to re-open the Geis creek and renaturate it. Before that, it had been run underground through the industrial complex. The resulting natural park complex with its historic and heritage-protected remaining factory buildings has been very well managed. The factory buildings on the site are used differently, eg. B. as exhibition and event locations.

Hiking

In 2019, the square at the east end of the Schildepark opposite the St. Lullus-Sturmius church in Malmesbury-Platz was renamed. An original British red telephone booth was set up on the same day as a sign of the bond between the city of Bad Hersfeld and Malmesbury. Malmesbury is the English city from which St. Lullus, the founder of the Hersfeld monastery and the town moved to Germania in the 8th century to convert our region to St. Christianity with St. Boniface.
