About Lilo FD

At least the cider bar is closed here for a good reason ;-) Nice autumn tour!

Actually we could have sat down on the lake shore with a glass of wine, but then it occurred to us that we could walk around the lake at sunset. It's exhausting when driving against the sun, but of course the mood is wonderful! Some of them had the same idea as we did. So don't forget lighting so that you can be seen when it gets dark!A walk to the bird island was no longer successful, but geese flying over the lake with screams brought liveliness to the quiet evening. When we finished the round, some of them had already stuck their heads under their wings to sleep on the lakeshore.

Tip: If you want to cycle through this beautiful natural landscape in a relaxed way, you should do so early in the morning!Although we were out during the week and sometimes the paths for pedestrians and cyclists are separate, the route still required our almost non-stop full attention. Everyone is really out and about here! The landscape is beautiful, including the connecting route between the lakes, which leads through a forest area! The beautiful sandy beaches on Brombachsee briefly awakened my desire to swim again.

Today my wish for a relaxing bike ride was fulfilled with this route that leads along the Altmühl through meadows and fields!Well, I hadn't wished for this strong wind, even if I actually like it when a breeze blows around my ears. So we struggled a lot and fought against the gusts, because we still wanted to get to the Altmühlsee. However, we were able to use this stiff breeze for ourselves when driving back. Those approaching us had a visibly worn expression on their faces ...We stopped for lunch under a shady, strong oak right next to the Altmühl, which is often hidden behind the natural vegetation on the banks. We also found beautiful, old, large linden trees in the villages. One of them is called Windsfeld, THE name was program today! Here we found an enchanted, cozy outdoor dining area on the way back. There was very delicious homemade cakes (3 types). The stork's nest on the roof was just not occupied; we had seen the storks looking for food in the meadows. We also drove through Aha. We had an “aha” experience, so to speak, before we got to Gunzenhausen, where there was a bypass for cyclists with yellow diversion signs. There was a lot going on at Altmühlsee! Bicycle and pedestrian traffic is very well regulated with its own lanes and walking lanes, so that you do not get in each other's way when circumnavigating the lake and can relax and enjoy the view.It was a wonderful day, which we ended with a visit to the Karlsgraben!

Very nice route, where there is a lot to see, but so far the stage that I liked the least: the road layout is too "stressful", often very narrow paths and many branches and too little relaxed cycling in nature! Since the railway line is very busy, it even happened to us twice that we were in the underpass when the freight train thundered over it.Both in Treuchtlingen and in Pappenheim it goes right through the center, which demands a lot of attention with regard to signposts and repeatedly causes unpleasant situations with cyclists, pedestrians and car traffic.
For people who progress slowly and want to see a lot on site, certainly optimal! We liked Pappenheim very much and we stopped there on the main square (attention one-way!).
The forest above the Altmühl and the beautiful old avenue in Pappenheim were beautiful (albeit close to many cyclists).

Today we cycled downriver from Eichstätt without any preparation or special expectations and were very positively surprised by the route. The encounter with the herd of sheep in the Gungoldinger Wacholderheide was a special experience. At Gungolding there is also a wonderful tent and rest area with a bathing area, shelter and toilet on the banks of the Altmühl, which we used immediately.
Otherwise, the route runs through small, friendly villages, past fields, meadows and tree gardens, but also for longer stages through the shady forest.
Very nice stage! After the last part before Kinding was rather boring and accompanied by a lot of traffic noise, we turned around on site.

      Another beautiful piece of Altmühltal!
I'm a fan of these rock formations, of which there were so many to see today. In Solnhofen we stopped at the Hofmühle inn before we turned back.
On the way there were always climbers and canoeists to watch, at the exit and entry points there was really something going on (Sunday)!
Rest benches and rest stops are also available on the route.

Very interesting city that we haven't seen everything about by a long way!The first impression: a very lively city, VERY splendid and the splendor often associated with the church! Center of the Altmühltal Nature Park - that can also be felt. There are plenty of places to stop for a break.

Even in this heat, curiosity drives us out into the terrain, and it wasn't that hot at all: You just have to drive fast enough to get enough airflow * grin *!
Here around Berching there are a thousand possibilities for beautiful bike tours. It's always nice along the water, but for a change it can also be a little sightseeing. We left the town center of Beilngries on the right and slowly glided past the strollers and river splashers in the center. Somewhere we must have overlooked a cycle sign towards Altmühl again!
In Dietfurt I actually wanted to visit the "Chinesenbrunnen", but the heavy traffic through the center stressed us so much that we immediately fled again. At the end there was a short tour of the Berching center.

I particularly liked this part of the Altmühl cycle path! We have been to the water a lot and yet the route was varied and there was enough to discover along the way.
The cycle path is very well marked, maybe you should follow it the last bit and drive to the center of Dietfurt instead of wandering around to the ship landing stage like we did. You are not allowed / should not go everywhere here (company premises).
So always pay close attention to the signs!
On the way back we made a short detour for a snack and then drove to the only swimming lake in the area (St. Agatha). A very inviting place!
