The so-called Koraalhuis on the Schoolstraat in Mechelen was probably founded in the 15th century as a singing school, governed by the Saint Rumbold Chapter. The facade was completely restored to its original state in 1922-1925 by architect H. Meyns. The corner house, which follows the bend of the building line, has brick facades with natural stone used for plinths, layers, frames, corner and nave blocks. The facade of the Koraalhuis has been protected as a monument since 1938. In 1987, the protection was extended to the entire building.

The Koraalhuis is a social project of the Mechelen parishes. It is a warm place where we look for answers to the guests' questions.
The door is open on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, each time from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and on Wednesdays also from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

In 2020, the church council of St. Rumbold's sold the Koraalhuis building. The building is now privately owned. The current owners are a musical family, thus completing the circle with the building's original purpose.
The social project 'Koraalhuis' is completely separate from the current owners and is therefore no longer located at this location. It is now located at Hoviusstraat 1.
