Why this hut is popularly called egg hut should be obvious to the attentive observer. In fact, it is the replica of a hut that has been there for a long time. But as a refuge in the extensive Jenischpark she is also quite good.
December 23, 2018
In a prime location with a sweeping view over the Flottbek Valley, a small wooden hut stands between meadow and forest. Its oval windows gave it the local nickname "Egg Hut." The dedication in Roman capital letters on the gable reads:
AMICIS ET QVIETI (Dedicated to peace and friends).
The inscription was dedicated to the cult of friendship of the time, the reflection on truthfulness and closeness between friends. The small "Egg Hut" in Jenisch Park also represented the world of thought around 1800.
Demolished after the Second World War, it was rebuilt in 1995 with the help of donations. Instead of fire-prone thatch, the hut now has a grass roof.
The reopening of the "Egg Hut" was celebrated in September 2021 after successful restoration.jenischparkverein.de/eierhuette
