The Hopfgarten dam (Speicher Hopfgarten) in the district of Weimarer Land near Erfurt is an agricultural reservoir and is used for irrigation of intensive agriculture. It also has great importance for nature conservation. Fish farming is also operated here.
Dammed up is the Gramme. The artificial lake serves besides the irrigation also the regulation of the water level in the Gramme.
The shut-off structure is a 368 m long and 15 m high earth dam. The dam belongs to the Thuringian long-distance water supply. Nearby is the dam Vieselbach (Wikipedia).
