    Sunken Giant, Weimar
On the Frauenplan between Goethe's house and Brauhausgasse there is a sculpture made of volcanic rock. A giant with one foot, left bent leg and upper body protruding from the ground. He has a flat nose, a long beard and a belly of prosperity. In 1992 he was "buried" at this spot by his creator, the sculptor Walter Sachs.

Every year on the 28th of August, Goethe's birthday is celebrated here, usually combined with a wine festival. With a bit of luck at the right time you can also experience "the Privy Councilor in persona" ...

The Frauenplan is rich in sights and a tourist magnet. On the one hand there is Goethe's house, who previously lived in the garden house on the Ilm, and the Vulpius houses in which his relatives lived. At that time the inn "Zum Weisse Schwan" was particularly popular, where the poet and his guests were happy to be entertained. In the middle of the square you will find the Goethe fountain with a dolphin as a water player from 1821.
