This almost 25 hectare nature reserve (managed by the Nature and Forest Agency), together with the city park, forms the green lung of Aalst. You can enjoy a lovely walk through the wild landscape among the Galloway cattle and Scottish highlanders who manage nature with them. So close to the city you will find deer, foxes and many breeding birds. You don't have to stay on the trails, but make sure you have waterproof footwear!
When I passed through, in mid-January 2023, leaving the paths was not an option in most places; It was really too swampy for that.
