Contrary to what was initially stated here, this chapel is not dedicated to Saint Anthony, but to Saint Augustine, as explained on the information board on the chapel facade.
The chapel, which - because of its location - is also sometimes called "Chapel of the Six Ways", probably dates from the end of the 18th century. The cross on the chapel is probably that of the old church of Welle, which was demolished in 1875.
Saint Augustine of Hippo (354-430) is known as one of the "church fathers", teacher-philosopher & writer from the early Christian period.
He is the patron saint of travelers, and patron saint of printers, theologians and ... - hold on - beer brewers.
