After a devastating city fire in 1403, it was rebuilt in the Gothic and late Gothic style. The town hall was given its neo-Gothic facade in 1866/67. The large coat of arms of the city of Zwickau can be seen above the main entrance. After a two-year renovation and conversion phase, the entire building has been shining in new splendor since 2011.

The first address in town is the town hall at Hauptmarkt 1. After a devastating town fire in 1403, it was rebuilt in the High and Late Gothic style. The Jakobskapelle, built between 1473 and 1477, from this period has been preserved in its original condition. The late Gothic three-bay room with ribbed vaulting and Renaissance portal was painted in 1614.

Very nice building, which has a great effect due to the spacious market square.
