“The 1,700 meter long and up to eight meter deep path is one of the most beautiful of its kind in North Rhine-Westphalia”

The creation of the hollow path near Butzheim dates back to the early Middle Ages. It connects the village with the lower terrace of the Rhine. Historical maps show it as a ravine leading from Butzheim into the moor 200 years ago.

During the Ice Age, loess deposits were created, some of which were several meters thick, on which fertile soils developed. The Rhine district of Neuss also benefited from this. It became a traditional agricultural location with a long-standing farming culture.
