    The monument commemorates the Mayor of Quedlinburg and honorary citizen Heinrich Gustav Brecht. He was born in 1830 in Groß Quenstedt as a pastor's son and studied law at the University of Halle. He participated in the revolution 1849/49 and 1849 member of the fraternity Fürstenthal hall. From 1860 he was the mayor of the city of Quedlinburg, was elected in the course of his term as mayor and retained this post until his death. He died in 1905 in Quedlinburg.
