The trout well reveals a theme that has always been inextricably linked with Forchheim: fishing. The large abundance of fish, which is more present in the waters of the Wiesent, could be related to the two trout gracing the Forchheim city arms. However, the place name Forchheim is likely to derive from the Old High German foraha = Föhre or general conifer. In the place of the trout well was formerly a public well, which served to supply water to the population, before it was replaced in 1977 by the trout well, created by the artist Harro Frey.
