The Hof-Apotheke at Markt 4 is the oldest pharmacy in Weimar and was the only one until 1801. The Löwen Pharmacy was founded in 1801. It was first mentioned in 1506 on the site of the later Fürstenkeller. In 1567 she was given the privilege of the house on the north side of the market.

Hiking

Thanks to its bay window and seating niche portal, the Hof-Apotheke is one of the most eye-catching houses on the market.

Until 1801 it was the only pharmacy in Weimar. In 2022, its use as a pharmacy ended and with it the history of the city's oldest shop (with interruptions since 1567).

The Hof-Apotheke also has a connection to Goethe's work in Weimar. For his scientific studies he worked here together with Wilhelm Heinrich Sebastian Bucholz, who was a mountain councilor, court physician and official physicist.
