In the twenties, Lord Mayor Konrad Adenauer built the Inner and Outer Green Belt in the area of former fortifications. The Inner Green Belt starts at the Flora in Riehl, runs through the districts Mauenheim and Ehrenfeld and from there across the university campus to the Luxemburger Straße.
