The China Art Museum, Shanghai - previously the Shanghai Art Museum - is a municipal museum and was originally founded in 1956 on Nanjing Road. In 2000 it relocated to the former Shanghai Race Club building on People's Square, which today is home to the Shanghai History Museum. After the Expo 2010 and the huge popularity of the China Pavillion, the Shanghai government announced that the China Pavillion would become home to the Shanghai Art Museum, and would be renamed into China Art Museum, Shanghai.

The China Pavillion building itself is a worthwhile sight. Over 60m in height it was the tallest and also the most expensive building at the Expo 2010. The building was designed by a team around architect He Jingtang.
