Waibaidu Bridge was built in 1856 and was initially a wooden structure. In 1908 it got replaced by the steel structure still standing today.
Until the construction of this bridge the only way of crossing Suzhou Creek was by ferry.
Today the bridge attracts tourists for its view onto Pudong, and also newlyweds for wedding photos.
