The Altmarkt is the oldest square in Moers. There were fairs in Moers as early as the 14th century, as Emperor Charles IV is said to have allowed the Count of Moers to hold fairs on Blasius and Vitus on seven days each in 1373.

The old town of Moers with Pfefferstraße, Friedrichstraße and Kirchstraße is today probably one of the most beautiful parts of Moers, with a long history and beautiful little shops. But if you are looking for the sign “Old Town”, you need good glasses to find it! The visitors to the city are actually only guided through the pedestrian zone.
One can only be amazed
