The Rhine is not the only body of water in Baerl to stay in. There are also some lakes created by quarrying gravel and sand. Under these so-called excavator holes, which are now renatured again, protrude in size and extent u. a. the Uettelsheimer lake and the Lohheidesee in each of the same districts out. The Lohheidesee forms, together with the immediately adjacent Baerler Busch, a forest area of about 4 square kilometers, a large coherent recreational area, ideal for lounging or for walks. The extensive woodland borders directly on the newer western residential areas of Baerl.
