The Schneckenstein is a 23.4 m high rock that became famous for the rich topaz deposits in this area. It lies 883 m above sea level near the village of Schneckenstein. Schneckenstein is located between Klingenthal, Muldenberg, and Tannenbergsthal in the Vogtland region.

Topaz is a mineral that resembles gemstones, often has a yellowish, colorless, or brown to bluish hue, and is cut like diamonds and used in jewelry. Topazes have also been called the "Saxon Diamond" due to their abundant occurrence in our region. Topaz from the Schneckenstein area was used, among other things, in an English royal crown and in jewelry belonging to Augustus the Strong, King of Saxony.
