The nature reserve Glashütter Wiesen impresses with its rustic and lush vegetation and offers an exciting contrast to the Hunsrück forests. The meadows were created by the use of forest wood for the operation of a glassworks since the 17th century, for which the felled wood was first used when the zoo was formerly located to the north. At the beginning of the 18th century, the current areas were cleared, but glass production was stopped in 1735.
In 1903 the lease expired, the buildings were demolished and the site abandoned.
