The name "Barranco de la Lava" suggests a relationship with volcanic lava, and in fact, this ravine was formed as a result of historical volcanic eruptions on the island. One of the most notable events was the eruption of the San Juan Volcano in 1949, which emitted lava that moved towards the sea, creating an extensive surface of lava in its path. The Barranco de la Lava is a testimony of this volcanic activity.
