Hiking Highlight
The Pico Birigoyo is located on the Cumbre Vieja. This ridge extends approximately in north-south direction and forms together with the north of the Refugio El Pilar subsequent Cumbre Nueva the central mountain range on the southern island of La Palma.
The Cumbre Vieja is of volcanic origin. It consists of lava, tuff and volcanic ash. Numerous craters are lined up.
The views from there are sensational.

A great view that offers.
When I climbed it was a bit windy and cloudy, but it was still fun.

Very good views of the Caldera Rand, Cascada de Nubes (weather), Cumbre Nuevo and Tenerife

My favorite view into the Caldera de Taburiente. When the weather is clear, the summit of the Birigoyo overlooks the Caldera ridge with the centrally located Pico Bejenado and the east and west coasts. Nowhere else on the island can you find this phenomenal panoramic view. Tip: Early waking up is worthwhile, as the sun slowly expels the shadows in the caldera.

From here (1850 m) you have a great view over the Caldera, down to the Cumbre Noeva, the Aridane valley and the Atlantic Ocean.
On a clear day you can see the neighboring islands of Tenerife and Gomera.

The volcano Birigoyo is easy to climb in about an hour from the picnic spot El Pilar. Great panoramic view over the island.
