Curschmann was an internist and professor and was one of the formative personalities in the early development of the hospital in Eppendorf.
The bust commemorates the medical history of the UKE and thus a time when modern medicine increasingly developed into a scientifically characterized discipline. A small, but interesting detail on the extensive clinic grounds that makes the historical background of the UKE visible.
