The Kehrwiederwall is located near the New Gate in Hildesheim. This is part of several ramparts that were built in the 15th century to protect the city. In addition to the Kehrwiederwall, these include the Langelinienwall and the Hohe Wall. They frame around two-thirds of the city center and are part of the public green spaces. Protected as architectural monuments, they now serve primarily as a recreational area. Due to its natural design, a large number of small animal species and plants have been able to settle here over the years.

The so-called cheese cellar is now located under the Kehrwiederwall. This is an approximately 80 square meter cellar vault that consists of a system of several connecting corridors and barrel vaults.

The Kehrwiederwall behind Keßlerstrasse in the half-timbered district forms part of the ramparts. A special highlight is the Kehrwieder tower.
