In 1886, the Yellow Tower was built on the "Spitzhut", a part of the Galgenberg ridge in the southeast of Hildesheim. The construction was the completion of reforestation of the Galgenberg ridge. Its name derives from the building material used - yellow bricks were used.
Since the spring of 1999, the observatory has been regularly visited by the adult education center Hildesheim. The largest reflector telescope in southern Lower Saxony provides fascinating insights into the starry sky.
