Monopol/Grillo slag heap
This slag heap stretches over a length of around 750 metres and offers an area of around 6.5 hectares, giving you the opportunity to enjoy nature. The highest point is at 68 metres above sea level. On the wooded northern part of the slag heap you can discover some stone patterns that are reminiscent of the shape of a snail shell. In the western part of the slag heap (slag heap head) you will also find a blue-painted wooden post sculpture that blends in with the surroundings. And for anyone interested in the history of mining: rusty relics lie along the path and in the tall grass that tell of days gone by. You can easily explore the slag heap: one path crosses the slag heap and another runs parallel to the north, so you can take a little walk. The paths lead through a young birch forest. Partially unpaved pathThe entire area of the Monopol mine is accessible via the German Football Route NRW, the Emscher Park cycle path, the Seseke path and the RadKreis Unna cycle network. The cycle path along the Körne begins not far from the site.
