In addition to the city wall of the old town and the castle fortifications, Querfurt had a second city wall enclosing the suburbs. This outer city wall had, as can be clearly seen in a picture from 1639, twenty towers and four city gates. These outer city gates were called the Lederberg Gate, the Tecklische Gate, the Steinweg Gate, and the Outer Nebrische Gate. The Lederberg street district, on the way to Lodersleben and Gatterstädt, was also one of the crossings into Thaldorf, which was not part of the walled suburbs. To this day, the street is called Lederberg, and a monument to the city gate that once stood on this site has been erected at its western end. It consists of two pillars bearing the name of the gate and the city's coat of arms, respectively.
