The St. Nicholas Church in Bergkirchen is in a wonderful location in the Wiehengebirge. The first church was there 1,200 years ago. The current building dates from 1756. The community center is only about 300 meters away.
The Bergkirchen community currently has around 2,500 members.

Carl von Schlotheim was the district administrator of Minden and the initiator of road construction.

His memorial, a sandstone monument, stands on the northern slope of the Wiehen Hills, which was dedicated in 1857, during the district administrator's lifetime. Near the memorial are two cast-iron crosses, the final resting places of the district administrator and his wife, Melanie von Schlotheim.
