Weir on the Roosterbeek. When the plate is lowered into the concrete tank, the water level in the stream rises. As soon as the water has risen sufficiently, water also ends up in the shallower channel. This canal directs the water to a number of other ponds a few kilometers away.

The Province of Limburg, together with the Nature and Forest Agency, installed a new weir on the Roosterbeek in Zonhoven, located in the area of De Wijers and the Mosselweg. The dilapidated weir had been unusable for some time and therefore no water could be stored. The new weir will once again ensure correct water distribution. It is important that the water is pumped up so that it flows high enough to supply the nearby ponds and the wet area with sufficient water, especially in dry times. Because if the water is too low, it cannot flow to the ponds. Thanks to the weir, this is possible. The weir is designed in such a way that the fish can always pass through and no migration problem is caused.
