This chapel is known as the chapel of Hamelheide and was built by order of machinist Frans Machiels from Hasselt, who owned a piece of land here. In 1944 Machiels found himself at Hasselt station in the midst of heavy bombardments. He prayed and promised to build a chapel if he made it out alive. And so it happened. It is a typical origin story of many chapels. The chapel, built in 1954 and dedicated to Our Lady of Perpetual Help, was completed in 1959 and received a Stations of the Cross. It grew into a small place of pilgrimage and Eucharist is celebrated several times a year.

This Stations of the Cross was built in 1959 when the neighboring chapel of Hamelheide - dedicated to Our Lady of Perpetual Help - was expanded. The chapel itself was built in 1954. More about its origins and the Stations of the Cross at komoot.com/nl-nl/highlight/617878

A special serene Stations of the Cross. Every visitor can experience this in his own way. Some on knees, others barefoot...
But definitely worth a visit.
Don't forget to visit the chapel and let the light shine on you there.
