In the Middle Ages, today's Schiller market was known as Pajiลti Square (German meadow square). 1659 a mill and an artesian well was built, which worked until 1854. In 1909, on the occasion of the 150th birthday of Schiller, the city council changed the name of Pajiลti Square to the name of the poet in Schiller Square.
