Since 1295, the citizens of Pilsen have had a brewing right granted by King Wenceslas II. In 1842, the Pilsener Bürgerbrauhaus, decided upon by a citizens' assembly, was completed. The brewery was to brew Bavarian beer, and Josef Groll from Bavaria was hired as the brewer. He brewed the first batch on October 5, 1842. Although the beer did not quite meet expectations, it was a great success. The recipe for this beer, newly brewed here at the time, is known worldwide today as Pilsner, named after its place of origin.

From here you can get to the brewery and the brewery cellar. Unfortunately, the restaurant is too spruced up for me and has lost the rustic flair it had in recent years. It has also become quite expensive.
