End of the 19th century Kiel became an imperial naval city, and in 1895 the Kaiser Wilhelm Canal (NOK) was opened and so Kiel expanded to the north.
In 1903 the Evangelical Lutheran Ansgar Church was built here, which today belongs to the Heiligengeist parish.

Hiking

The hall church has a rectangular floor plan with a semi-circular stair tower on the right side and was built between 1901 and 1903 according to plans by the imperial building commissioner and master church builder, Jürgen Kröger.
The church was badly damaged during World War II. During the reconstruction, the vault was restored as a simple barrel vault with lunettes, the original net vault is only preserved near the organ gallery.
