In honour and remembrance of the Canadian liberators of Hoofdplaat on October 10, 1944 and the 22 civilian victims who lost their lives. The Canadians landed here on Green Beach with their amphibious vehicles during Operation Switchback on the night of October 8-9. Despite counterattacks by the German Wehrmacht, a bridgehead was established and the Canadian troops were able to advance further to liberate West Zeeland-Flanders.
