Hiking

Before 1778, when the Hoofdplaatpolder was created, the port at that time was a little further north, i.e. "in" the Scheldt. Over time, Hoofdplaat became a village behind the dike. In the 1970s, the port was lost when the Westerschelde dike was built. This information board is a reminder.
With binoculars you can sometimes see seals on the large sandbank towards Breskens
