Bike Touring Highlight
As the name suggests, he is the first of its kind in Germany. As a bicycle connection planned across the Ruhr, he is currently connecting Mülheim an der Ruhr with Essen. Widely developed, paved and fairly straight.
The disadvantage of such a route across a metropolitan area is the lack of space. Thus, the route is partly right on the train tracks. Beautiful views are looking for in vain.
Only in Essen Krupp Park it is varied.
All in all an excellent idea to build such a connection as an alternative to the Ruhrschnellweg A40 and the RB42. And there is less traffic jam on the RS1 definitely.

From the RS1 so far only parts, if the Radschnellweg once completely expanded, you can drive from Duisburg to Hamm. Information about the overall project can be found on the website rs1.ruhr.I commute by bike between Duisburg Bissingheim and Essen (Niederfeldsee) by bike. So far I am in MH city center on the RS 1 on / off. After the section was completed by the FH in Mülheim, I use this, for me closer to departure / departure. The RS1 is awesome to get ahead fast. No traffic lights, no intersections in the traditional sense. The cycle track is also increasingly being discovered by skaters, pedestrians and joggers, which can sometimes lead to situations as there is only one way that everyone can share. No problem, except for the sections in MH city center. Here are flowerbeds and benches created that limit the available space and ensure that you have to take out speed. Some restaurants / beer gardens along the route have already recognized the potential and have set up signs. If you are passing through and have the classic (hunger, pee, thirst), you will find enough possibilities. For cyclists who also want to see something, I currently recommend the areas Niederfeldsee (Radmoshäre) and in MH the area of Müga.

Rather boring for leisure cycling, but a great connection for commuters to work, shopping, university ... from MH Hbf to University of Essen in 20 minutes. It's not that fast with the car :-)

Oh, great. A look at how good bike paths could be. If the joggers and pushers (male / female) would understand that the paved path is for cyclists ... well, or you can just asphalt the footpath. Probably easier to achieve. Otherwise: The RS1 at the University of Essen is stupid to find if you look for it. But the Essen - Mülheim route is really good fun. Soon the bridge in Essen will also be ready ...

The first official cycle expressway in Germany runs here in Essen on the route of the former Rheinische Bahn. A perfect connection for cyclists between Essen and Mülheim an der Ruhr.
