The Berne Park in Bottrop is a special kind of industrial monument: wastewater has been treated here for almost forty years. Then the plant with the two circular basins and the machine house was shut down and was almost forgotten until the Emschergenossenschaft decided to revitalize it as a place of industrial culture. From the former, inaccessible sewage treatment plant, a park that is open to the public was created as part of EMSCHERKUNST.2010, the largest art project in the 2010 Capital of Culture.

There is a restaurant in the engine house and the Park Hotel: five sewer pipes converted into suites, three meters long and 2.40 meters in diameter.

Period from May 1st to September 30th - Another special feature is: Pay as you want!

Cyclists, hikers, walkers and idlers on the Emscher Cycle Path experience unusual event catering in the BernePark in the former machine house.
The old machine house now houses a restaurant with a special flair. When you enter, you can take a deep breath. Because large rotundas create a light-flooded atmosphere. Inside the house, parts of the former machine system have been lovingly preserved as a decorative highlight.

It is always worthwhile to take a break here. Unfortunately, the restaurant and the beer garden on Saturday only from 15 o'clock open.
Worth seeing are the unusual accommodations.

The Berne Park directly on the Emscher is a nice example of how to combine culture, garden and enjoyment in the machine house. Recommended.

The Bernepark seems to have reopened at least at the weekend (May 2020).

Especially worth a tour when it gets dark, because the lighting is a real highlight. The possibility of spending the night in tubes is very appealing for people who want to experience something different. Right next to it there is the opportunity to strengthen yourself

An overnight stay in a sewer pipe, pretty crazy, but possible in Berne Park. There are five tubes that can be booked online. The booking costs 20 euros and then after the night you only pay as much as you are willing to give. An envelope is ready for it.

There is more space in the tube than you think and there is also a small window above, more like a porthole. There are sheets and pillows, a lamp and sockets! There is a restaurant in the machine house, so dinner and breakfast are provided.

You can spend the night in the concrete tubes - if you want, right next to the (not yet renatured) Emscher :-)

Small park with concrete tubes that serve as a hotel.
Very nicely laid out, but depending on how the wind is, not necessarily very pleasant.
Because on one side the Emscher flows and on the other side a "Köttelbecke"

Nice little park with lots of play equipment for children.
You can also spend the night in sewer pipes, which is definitely an experience.
Another experience is the stench that wafts over either from the Emscher or from an adjoining small "Köttelbecke".

With the new construction of the largest sewage treatment plant in Bottrop, the Berne sewage treatment plant could be given up and become what it is today.

On the site of the old sewage treatment plant, you can spend the night in a sewer pipe.
Of course, the pipes were never used as sewer pipes,
