The Borbeck castle goes back to a Franconian upper courtyard of the women's monastery in Essen called Bort (h) beki, which was first mentioned in 869 in a lifting roll of the monastery. Borbeck Castle is a baroque moated castle in the Borbeck district of Essen. The castle complex consists of a main house and an elongated outbuilding. The two castle buildings are surrounded by a 42-hectare castle park in the English landscape style.
