A historic square that dates back to the 19th century and is the heart of the old town of Gijón. It is a popular place with tourists and locals alike. In the center of the square is the statue of King Pelayo, who is believed to have led the resistance against the Muslim invasion in the 8th century. Around the square are several historic buildings, including the Clock Tower, the Revillagigedo Palace, and the San Pedro church. In the square there are also many bars, cafes and restaurants where you can enjoy Asturian gastronomy, including the local cider.

The Plaza Mayor of Gijón is a historic square located in the centre of the Asturian city of Gijón, Spain. It is known for housing the Casa Consistorial, which is the main seat of the City Council.
The square is located between San Lorenzo beach and Plazuela del Marqués, in the Cimadevilla neighbourhood. It was designed in 1858 by Andrés Coello and later modified in 1864 by Luis Céspedes and Lucas María Palacios.

The Plaza Mayor was designed in 1852 and the town hall was completed in 1867. The square, rectangular and cobbled, is porticoed on two sides.
This square hosts different events throughout the year, such as craft markets (the second weekend of each month), fairs, concerts, proclamations (such as the Semana Grande, Antroxu or the Three Kings) and contests such as tonada or traditional dances.
