The wooden facade in Kortewinkel in Bruges is one of the few preserved medieval wooden facades in Belgium. The house dates from the first half of the 16th century and shows how dwellings were previously built with a timber-framed facade. The upper floor juts out slightly above the ground floor, which provided extra space and better protected the facade from rain. Due to the high risk of fire, wooden facades were later banned, which is why only a few have been preserved today.
