The Fichtelgebirge Association was founded on December 16, 1888 in the building at Sigmund-Wann-Strasse 37. The commemorative plaque made of ox head porphyry was unveiled on September 10, 1988 at the 100th anniversary celebrations. The design was by Gerhard Kammerer from the Wunsiedel city building authority, and the stonemasonry was carried out by Karl and Peter Mayer from Wunsiedel.

Hiking

In 1878 the Fichtelgebirge section of the German Alpine Club was founded in Wunsiedel. She saw her task as developing the Fichtelgebirge. Ten years later, the Alpine Club section was dissolved and the Fichtelgebirgesverein, based in Wunsiedel, was founded in this building. The respective forester from Wunsiedel took over management for many years.

Hiking

The Fichtelgebirge Club was founded in 1888 in Wunsiedel, when the "Fichtelgebirge Section" of the Alpine Club, which had existed since 1878, was dissolved or converted into an independent club. The tasks and goals initially remained the same: opening up the mountains for hikers. The erection of a massive viewing tower in 1900 on the Großer Kornberg was the first major structure. The Asenturm on the 1024 m high Ochsenkopf was built in 1922, one year later today's observation tower on the Kösseine.
