The oldest existing house in Reykjavik is house number ten in Aðalstræti (the 'Main Street'). It was built in 1864 on the ruins of a weaving workshop set up by the 'Father of Reykjavik' Skúli Magnússon, the first governor of Iceland. His statue stands in front of the Skúli Craftbar and Te & Kaffi. This small house was once the official residence of the Bishop of Iceland.
