About Theo

The 11th and presumably penultimate walk in the 'Christmas Flood series'. From Kleine Huisjes over the Dijksterweg, where the dike was located in 1717. Which, however, was far from being able to withstand the natural violence of the Christmas flood in 1717. Along the Bokum farm, a name that already appears on maps that were made around the Christmas flood. And when the dike went up .... it was a gamble, fierce showers kept coming and going. And I had planned about 4 km over the dike, against the strong wind and without any shelter. A lashing shower is not pleasant. That wasn't too bad, in fact, the showers drifted past me left and right. And they willingly allowed themselves to be photographed :). To Hornhuizen, with the wind at your back now and with it several showers. Along the church with the yellow tower, intended as a beacon for ships on the Wadden Sea. During the Christmas Flood, many people drowned here, the dike could not hold, the church was in disrepair and offered little protection.
Continue to Kruisweg, Kloosterburen with the Cloostertuin and Molenrij. Molenrij was once an unprotected settlement in the salt marshes on the island of De Marne. How haunted it must have been!
This walk is part of the collection 'Along the borders of the Christmas flood 1717':

Yesterday in the madness of the Amsterdam city center, this morning in the tranquility of the Drentsche Aa stream valley. If there's anywhere you can settle the dust, it's here. Man, how lucky am I to have a 'backyard' like that. As an encore beautiful light from a lovely autumn sun and trees in autumn dress or about to change color.

Nice criss-cross tour through the western part of the canal belt, through the Jordaan with the Noordermarkt, over the Leidseplein, past the Westerkerk and the Munttoren. Through the Kalverstraat and the Spui to Dam Square.

After an intensive visit to the Rijksmuseum you will have few legs left. We then dragged ourselves past the catering industry on the canal belt.

Exploration of Amsterdam North, over the Nieuwendammerdijk, through the Vliegenbos, through the Vogelbuurt and IJplein to the Amsterdam LookOut. Very nice to explore this for us unknown part of Amsterdam.

Short evening walk on the quiet Ballooërveld. What a privilege to have this so close to home. It is always a pleasure to wander around here!

Walk in the area of De Vork near Haren. De Vork is the point where the railway lines Assen-Groningen and Winschoten-Groningen meet. Started in Onnen to the Onnerpolder. A small road turned out not to be a road, so the same way back. No punishment, see photos 1 to 5. Via the Nattelaarzenpad to Waterhuizen, along the Winschoterdiep, to the NS/Arriva De Vork depot, through archaeological park De Vork, through the hamlet of Essen and Haren, past Harendermolen over the 101-year-old steel truss bridge over the railway. With a beautiful country road over the Onner essen for dessert. How much variety do you want :).
