You can see it from afar, the mighty church in Briesnitz. Right next to it is the picturesque Freidhof, through which Caspar David Friedrich and his doctor and painter friend Carl Gustav Carus regularly strolled. On their walks they found time for conversations and sketches. Some of these works are exhibited in the Kupferstich-Kabinett Dresden. From the cemetery further uphill, the path takes you directly to the idyllic Zschonergrund nature reserve with the Zschoner mill. This houses the Dresden Mill Museum with entertaining tours as well as a puppet theater and a wine museum.

The Briesnitzer church is a listed building and is one of the oldest churches in the upper Elbe Valley.

The church can already be recognized as a landmark from the motorway and is beautifully illuminated at night. The beautifully built ensemble is worth seeing in itself and is surrounded by a small garden and tombs. Almost like in the movie but still beautiful. If you're nearby and want to get off the main road below, here's why :).

Then it is best to follow the mountain further up and then continue in the direction of Zschonergrundmühle.
