When hikers climb up to Nideggen with its impressive castle from the valley of the river Rur, they have to climb quite a few metres in altitude. But the views from up here are worth the effort.

This view of the Eifel (approx. 300 meters above sea level) on the west tower, the so-called "lady's bay window", of the castle offers you a south to north-westerly view over the central Rur valley and the northern parts of the Eifel National Park the plateau of the Rur-Eifel.
The west tower consists mainly of building fabric from the 14th century and served representative purposes with its large windows. Inside are the remains of a chimney, based on which it is assumed that the bowers for the female members of the count's family were also located here.

Nideggen Castle is enthroned above the central Rur Valley on the so-called "Burgwand", which is up to 50 m high and forms the high point of the local federal sandstone formations. The oldest part of this mighty and imposing landmark (the keep) was built between 1177 and 1190 at the behest of Count Wilhelm II von Jülich.
The castle museum, which opened in the keep in 1979, provides an interesting insight into life in a castle in the Middle Ages through its exhibitions (rursee.de/urlaubs interest/sightseeing/a-eifel-blick-burg-nideggen).

This Eifel view (approx. 300 meters above sea level) on the west tower, the so-called "ladies' bay window", of the castle offers you a distant view in a south to northwest direction over the middle Rur valley and the northern parts of the Eifel National Park up to the plateau of the Rureifel.
